My search for the right foundation... Product Review & Rave

I've been having some trouble with pesky acne lately and since I've never worn foundation, I was not quite sure which products I should be using. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on something that would end up in the back of my makeup drawer so I headed to Ulta to pick some different products up to test out (they let you return cosmetics even if they were opened).

First product: Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse (Nude)

Since I like the Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush (which is now discontinued), I thought I would find this foundation to be just as good. But it was a little too much for me. I tried applying both with a foundation brush and a second time with just my fingers. The coverage was more than I needed and I felt like it was caked on.

Second product: Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam (Nude)
This is definitely a lighter foundation than the Matte Mousse and the coverage wasn't as cakey.  I thought I would like the airy-ness of the foam but I wasn't a huge fan of the application. You have to shake the can A LOT in order to get the right consistency out of the bottle. And you have to pump it out on the back of your hand and use it quickly or it gets messy. I still felt like I had too much make up on my face.

Third product: Garnier BB Cream (Light/Medium)
Everyone has been talking about these BB creams and how amazing they are so I decided to give it a try. This is exactly the type of product I was looking for: a hybrid formula that offers advanced skincare and immediate skin perfecting coverage in one. It's a tinted moisturizer with SPF and acne treatment that gives me light coverage for my acne & splotchiness. I don't feel like I have a crapload of makeup on my face and if I'm in a rush all I have to do is rub some in, throw on some mascara and I'm good to go. I'm kind of obsessed.

You can find any of these products at your local drugstore but remember to check their return policy if you're not sure about which one is right for you. I always do a quick search online for any printable coupons so I don't break the bank either. What products have been working for you lately?

What I Wore - Coral Skinnies

Top - F21, Jeans - Marshalls, Sandals - Charlotte Russe (old), Necklace - Loehmann's (old)

We are getting some seriously gorgeous weather here in NJ and I figured I would enjoy it before it rains all weekend (wah). I bought these coral skinnies at Marshalls recently for $14.99. You really can't beat that. I was on a hunt for some mint ones but the coral color was so pretty I couldn't pass them up. I'm planning on hemming them soon and pairing them with a nice nude wedge. You can't really tell in the picture but my top is navy blue, a great alternative to black or gray when it comes to neutrals.
Today I woke up with an urge to go shopping and that what I plan on doing the rest of the afternoon! Hope you're all having awesome weather too this Friday :)

What I Wore - Coral & Navy

Blaxer - Ann Taylor, Top - Target, Skirt - Necessary Objects (old), Shoes - Sole Society, Necklace - F21

I have two sales presentations today and it's muggy and weird out so I figured a skirt would be the easiest thing... But who cares about that when it's HUNGER GAMES DAY?!!! I am SO excited for tonight's midnight showing that I can barely contain myself. And I even have a t-shirt to wear tonight, thanks to my sweet husband :)
May the odds be ever in your favor...

What I Wore - Gray Sheath

Dress - Calvin Klein, Necklace & Bracelet - Gifted, Shoes - Charlotte Russe (old)

I firmly believe that every woman should have a neutral colored sheath dress in their closet. It's one of the easiest pieces to throw on and look put together. You can change the look up with jewelry and shoes and you'll always have something to wear for professional occasions. I just happen to have about 10 in different shades of black & gray, lol.

What's your go-to piece in a professional wardrobe?

What I Wore - St. Patty's Day

Blazer - Ann Taylor, Top - Target, Jeans - Old Navy, Boots - RocketDog, Necklace - Loehmann's

Serg and I had a pretty tame St. Patrick's Day but I didn't want to let the day pass without throwing on a little green & gold. I have never paired green with navy but I really like how the "preppy" combination turned out for a nod towards one of my favorite holidays. How was your St. Patty's Day?

What I Wore - Rock the Red Pump (and lip!)

The Red Pump Project
 Scarf - F21, T Shirt - Harajuku, Blazer - H&M, Jeans - F21, Shoes - Sole Society
Can you tell I'm trying not to laugh at my "Captain Morgan" pose? lol

Today, March 9th 2012, bloggers everywhere are rocking red pumps to help raise awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. The Red Pump Project's mission is to promote HIV prevention through education, and open dialogue about the issues that surround sexual and reproductive health. There really couldn't be a better time to start a conversation about women's reproductive health than right now! Did you know that the largest number of HIV/AIDS diagnoses during recent years was for women aged 15–39?! Check out The Red Pump Project's website to see how you can get involved.

What I Wore - Black Skinnies & Ruffles

Cardigan - August Silk (Century 21), Blouse - Target, Pants - Ann Taylor, Shoes - Nine West, Belt - NY&Co

There is nothing more I'd like to do today than stay in bed curled up watching a movie or reading a book. It's just one of those days... Usually I feel like this when it's rainy out but today it's just bitter cold and I'm exhausted. Anyone else ready for spring?

What I Wore - Navy & Pink

Sweater - August Silk (Century 21), Blouse - F21, Pants - Old Navy, Shoes - Cole Haan, Belt - NY&Co, Watch - Coach

Nothing special about this outfit besides the fun color combo. I have had this blouse for years and since slightly sheer and a racerback, I've only worn in out at night. Last night I was looking through my clothes and decided it was time to wear my "going out" pieces a little differently or I would get very little wear out of them. So I tucked it in and threw a cardigan over it to make it appropriate for meeting with my boss for my performance review. I should probably be wearing a jacket, lol, but what can I say... I live life on the edge ;)

What I Wore - Russian Mob Wife Coat, lol

 Rabbit Fur Coat - Vintage, Sweater - F21, Jeans - F21, Booties - Urban Og, Hat - F21

My mother recently gave me this coat that was purchased in 1980 as a gift from my dad. I was so excited when I got it but soon realized I had no idea how to style it. And not to mention, we haven't been having a "normal" winter so it's never cold enough to wear.

I had plans to go to NYC to meet a friend for lunch so I decided to give it a try with some skinnies and a simple black sweater. While it's definitely not a coat I'll wear all the time, I'm so glad it got passed on to me (and not Nat, hahaha) ;)

Oh How I Love Closet Reorganization!

Earlier this week, Sergio finished installing laminate flooring on our 2nd floor. It was a long and painful process (his poor knees and sometimes fingers) but we are both so happy with the outcome. We can barely believe that we lived with horrible painted plywood and no moldings for almost 3 years! I promise I will post pictures of all the rooms later once I finish organizing everything.

Once my closet floor was finished, Serg took one look at my old plastic drawer sets (some I've had since college, yikes!) and told me it was time to upgrade. I had to agree with him... we stopped at IKEA and picked up a 6 drawer dress and a bookcase and it definitely made a huge difference.

So here is my new & improved closet space!

I'm not LOVING the way this looks. It could be b/c I think my socks look messy. Hm, I might have to come up with another solution...

Although it isn't Carrie Bradshaw's closet, I'm thrilled with how it turned out. Everything has it's place, it's easy to find what I need, and it looks pretty! Big thanks to my awesome husband for hooking me up ;) Now... off to organize the other rooms...
