Thanksgiving Disaster!

I dropped my pie crust in my oven. No, correction. I dropped it ALL OVER my oven. And then I cried hysterically. Serg came running to see what happened (I think he thought I chopped my finger off) and helped me clean up. I think I'm overwhelmed by the holidays and being a grown up in our first house. I'm not at my parent's house helping with Thanksgiving dinner. Instead, I'm in my own house, making pies to bring to our parents' houses. *sigh* It's a bittersweet feeling.
But, Thanksgiving is about being thankful so here we go!

My Family

My amazing boyfriend, Serg

Our super cute yellow house

My super annoying, yet super cute students

A couple more: my crazy fun friends, mascara, cookies, Dollar Tree, crafting, and rainy Sundays in bed watching movies with Serg :)

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Dreaming of Crafting...

Ok, I'm starting to feel like I'm a druggie going through withdrawl. No joke, I've been dreaming about what I want to make once I have my crafting stuff at our house. It's kinda sad. I went to Target today and looked at some Christmas cards but didn't buy any because I could make cuter ones. I didn't really think about the fact that I would need to mass produce cards within a 3 week period, but whatever. Then I strolled past the Christmas ornaments and thought about the awesome Ornament Wreath (which has been a HUGE craze in the Nesting world) I want to make once I have a place for my hot glue gun. I've also been looking up some ideas for stocking stuffers... It doesn't help that I stalk other awesome blogs written by super crafty, creative, artistic women. Basically, I need to get this crafting area set up before I develop a twitch.
Til then, I'll keep dreaming...

I Chickened Out :(

Serg and I took a trip to IKEA yesterday, which was probably our first mistake. Anyone who goes to IKEA on a Saturday is looking to fight with their significant other. It's packed, it takes forever to park, people bring their screaming children, no one is around to help... Augh. I was looking at the Besta line as storage for my crafting supplies. I originally thought of picking this frame up. It's $80.

$80 isn't bank breaking and I was ready to bring it home that same day... Until I looked over and saw the combinations they had put together in their showroom. Same frame with sliding glossy white doors and 3 drawers with glass fronts, making the total: $195. Add the cheapie desk for $19... plus tax... and we're looking at about $220. I know it's really not that bad but I didn't have the heart to do it before the holidays.
And now, I'm dying to make something with my Cricut (which is still at my parents' house!) I wish I had just stuck with my original plans of the $80 frame & $19 table. But there's no way in hell I'm going back to IKEA today. Hmph.

Good Hair Days = Good Days

A while back when I blogged about beauty supplies (I <3 all things beauty supplies), I raved about a product called Living Proof No Frizz. The more you use, the better it works. Well, considering it's $24 for 4oz, it's not very practical for my humble teacher's salary.

I found an AWESOME, CHEAPER, BETTER alternative: John Frieda's Frizz Ease Straight Fixation. Not only is it $5.99 for 5oz. but you only have to use a dime sized dollop. It works wonders. I accidently straightened my hair before checking the weather (believe me, this is an awful mistake, lol) and when I went out, it was drizzling (gasp!) and I had no umbrella (double gasp!). Amazingly, my hair stayed perfectly straight and there was no halo of frizz on the top of my head. This one is a keeper in my beauty arsenal!

Crafting Area On the Way!!

I finally figured out where I'm going to put my crafting area and it's not in our dingy basement! The second floor of our house used to be the attic so the ceilings are fairly low and on one side, it's slanted. We knocked out a closet in the hallway so the area is open and so far we pondered turning it into a reading area. Well, why not put my crafting corner in that space too?!

I'm heading over to IKEA today to pick up a basic table & a storage unit to put all my awesome crafting supplies in. I can't wait! Here's what I'm purchasing:

Serg is going to have a great time this weekend putting them together for me, lol.
Pics will be up soon!

You Never Know What Tomorrow Brings...

Serg's phone vibrating woke us up at dawn this morning. His friend Jorge had called him a couple of times and texted saying to call him back ASAP. We knew right away it couldn't be good news.

Sadly, we were right. Serg's childhood best friend had passed away very early this morning in a fatal car crash. We were shocked, to say the least, and I have never seen Serg so devastated.

His best friend was recently married and today I couldn't stop thinking about his wife. I can not imagine what she is going through right now. My thoughts & prayers go out to his whole family & friends.

Live everyday like it's your last. Smile. Laugh. Be happy. Tell people you love them. Don't ever leave or go to bed angry. Do what makes you happy. Don't waste time with negativity. You never know what tomorrow brings.

The Shelves Are In

Thank you Election Day for the day off! I'm pretty sure Serg was hoping that I'd relax today rather than be productive, but I couldn't help it. Little did he know that he'd end up being even more productive by the end of our day....

I met my mom & sister at HomeGoods (I really need to stop going there) and found an awesome mirror that our bedroom desperately needed. I will post pics as soon as it's up. I'm not really allowed to hang anything b/c I tend to "eyeball" and things end up crooked or falling.

I popped in next door to Home Depot to check out their shelves. I found exactly what I needed for $7.27! I impatiently waited for Serg to get home so he could measure, level, drill, and put them up for me. I would totally do it myself but if you read above, you'd know that it'd probably be disastrous. It took him about 45 minutes, but it was soooo worth it b/c they look great!

After:

I can't wait to get cute bins & containers to set up all our office supplies! I'm sure those pics will be up soon... like tomorrow, lol.

Happy Happy Halloween

I've always been obsessed with dressing up for Halloween. I can tell you every single Halloween costume I have worn since Pre-K (don't worry, I won't bore you.) But this year, I just wasn't into it. I felt like Halloween wasn't in the air as much as it usually is. I didn't even catch Teen Witch on TV! But my mom went into a sewing craze and made 6, yes SIX costumes in 5 days.

Here she is with my dad. Don't they look like they stepped out of Hogwarts?! She even made the hats!

And me & Serg:

And my little sister Nat with her bf Jon as Minnie & Mickey Mouse... you can't really see the costume but it's adorable (full skirt, poofy sleeves, yellow patent leather shoes, the works).

To top the Halloween awesomeness off... I went to my favorite store ever HomeGoods today and picked these friggin super cute Halloween things up for, no joke, less than $5!

Serg looked at me like I was crazy and said "Halloween was yesterday." Yes, thank you Captain Obvio, but don't you worry... I'll put these to good use next year at our first Haunted Halloween Party here at Mayfair Drive! ;)

Organization Overload

We have officially been living in our house for two months and things are coming together... slowly.  I just feel really unorganized, which makes me crazy. There's a place for everything and everything should be in it's place. Well right now, things are either shoved in closets or piled up in our basement (auuugghhh, the basement gives me serious anxiety). I'm waiting on Serg to build shelves into this closet in our office.

See how everything is piled?! It's making me nuts... Maybe I should measure and drive myself over to my favorite store Home Depot (can you sense the sarcasm?) and put these shelves up myself. I can't wait to neatly set up our office supplies. If you know me, you know that I have a sick obsession with office supplies, so there are definitely going to be labeled, color coded bins filled with post its, glue sticks, colorful paper clips, etc. Not to mention I got 6 of these for FREE (being a teacher has its perks) and they need a home.

Another thing I'm dying to do is set up a crafting area... Where am I going to do that, I don't know (the basement? yikes) but I NEED one.  All of my craft stuff is at my parents house, including my darling Cricut. Sad face.  I have some ideas of what I want/dream of.

Mark my words... I will have a craft room by next spring!
